18 Oct Help Hanover Play!
Over the summer, we received some very exciting news about the playground.
As we’ve all probably noticed, the cage in the bottom playground is looking a bit down on its luck: the tarmac’s tatty, it’s slippery and it doesn’t drain well after the rain. That’s about to change: we’re going to get a brand-spanking-new artificial pitch for everyone to play on.
Here’s how we can all help. Twice a year, Tesco gives out charitable grants under its Bags of Help initiative. The scheme selects three projects in each region to sponsor, and then gets the public to vote for their favourite. The project with the most votes gets £12,000, the second-placed £10,000 and the third £8000. Our playground has been selected as one of the three projects for our local area. HOORAY! Making the shortlist means we’ve already secured £8000, but there’s another £4000 up for grabs in the public vote. That extra money can make all the difference. So from 31 October to 13 November, every time you visit a Tesco in Islington be sure to take part in the instore vote – and get all your friends and family to help too. Spread the word: let’s make our playground the No. 1! Let’s Help Hanover!

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative in hundreds of regions across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.
Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s 416 regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags. The public will now vote in store from 26 September to 9 October on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards. In total, there is over £12.5 million up for grabs.
